Tarpon Gallore

The Virgin Islands was such a cool place and absolutely breathtaking. I never thought it could be so cool at night as well. When we would turn on the underwater lights on the boat 75 pound Tarpon would swarm the boat like bees to the honey. The Tarpon seemed so interested in the light and they would never leave the back of our boat.             We immediately got our swimsuits on and our snorkel gear on, and we jumped on them! It felt like you were in a shark tank. I got so close to them and they didn’t even swim away. It was really striking when I dove down to the bottom and looked up to see all the fish. That was one of the coolest experiences I have yet!

The Book Thief

My current book that I am reading is the Book Thief , by Markus Zusak. The author has a very funny way of narrating the book that is very unique. The narrator is death. At the beginning of the book Death introduces itself and describes how people think of it. Death says that it has looked people in the eyes so many times and that means someone dies when someone looks at it. The interesting part is that the setting takes place during world war two, so a lot of people are looking death in the eyes.             This is the  story is of two people, Liesel Meminger and Max Vandenburg. Their lives are very different but they somehow meet. I love how the author goes into every little detail about every character. There are also so many stories during the war that helps people imagine what it could have been like in Germany. This is a great book and I can’t wait to finish it.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I loved The Hate U Give a lot. It only took me about a week to finish because it was so fascinating. I have a theory about why Starr was wearing the hoodie the night Khalil was shot. An African American man was shot by a police officer wearing a black hoodie as well. His name was Trayvon Martin. He is very well known due to the protests of his death. People argue that Trayvon was killed because he looked ‘suspicious’. In the book kids at Starr’s school responded to his death by saying that he looked suspicious and so that is why he died.       My favorite character is Starr because I loved watching her develop and finally stand up to the shooter and everyone else who thought it was okay for Khalil to die. Starr’s friend Hailey argued with Starr about the shooting and said that he should have died. Starr ignored the comment at first but then she stood up to her and that was my favorite part of the book. This was a very deep book and it was so much fun to
