The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

     

     I loved The Hate U Give a lot. It only took me about a week to finish because it was so fascinating. I have a theory about why Starr was wearing the hoodie the night Khalil was shot. An African American man was shot by a police officer wearing a black hoodie as well. His name was Trayvon Martin. He is very well known due to the protests of his death. People argue that Trayvon was killed because he looked ‘suspicious’. In the book kids at Starr’s school responded to his death by saying that he looked suspicious and so that is why he died.

      My favorite character is Starr because I loved watching her develop and finally stand up to the shooter and everyone else who thought it was okay for Khalil to die. Starr’s friend Hailey argued with Starr about the shooting and said that he should have died. Starr ignored the comment at first but then she stood up to her and that was my favorite part of the book. This was a very deep book and it was so much fun to read.
